Biography


      Michael Barrett is active in the Boston area as a singer and choral conductor. After completing studies in voice and early music at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, Michael returned to the United States in 2004 to take up conducting positions at Harvard University. While in Europe he was a member of the Huelgas Ensemble (dir. Paul van Nevel) and the Netherlands Bach Society (dir. Jos vanVeldhoven). In the U.S. Michael has worked with Blue Heron (dir. Scott Metcalfe), Cut Circle (dir. Jesse Rodin), Seven Times Salt, and Ensemble Trinitas (dir. Tom Zajac), and appeared in the Boston Early Music Festival's 2005 production of Boris Goudenow. His Harvard duties include assistant conductor of the Collegium Musicum and director of the Holden Chamber Ensembles and the Dudley Chorus. Michael also sings regularly with the Schola Cantorum at S. Stephen's Church in Providence, and will serve as assistant conductor of Boston Secession.



      Prior to his studies overseas, Michael earned an AB in music at Harvard University and an MM in choir conducting at Indiana University in Bloomington.
